Self Branding - Digital Development

As I attempted to  merge my initials in my sketchbook I tried to take it to digital and do the same Merging just two letters together at first. I likes the way the J and the K could merge but I wanted to be known as my full name including my family name as each one means something different to me. My family mean a lot and I would like that to shine through me Joshua was given by my parents and Kevin from my Uncle on my dads side and Grandad on my mums who are no longer with us, Storey is my dads family name and I'd like to keep it to show I'm proud of my heritage.

I tried to create shape from the letters but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped the K turned out more to be like the Google Play logo. I gave up on this idea and went back to the drawing board.

Self Branding - Logo Initial Ideas

I jotted down some notes about who I am as a person and tried to convey that through some different sketches. I wanted to include my name somehow as at the moment that's who I am, as a designer I'm still trying to find out my style and who I am. I was stuck on the idea of making my design like a sort of superhero symbol and then considered just using my face as the design as that is me.

Bookbinding

Bookbinding is such a fun process, you have to be quite careful and not exactly perfect but pretty spot on which I enjoy practising. I had tried bookbinding in the past but did learn a few new skills like using the craft knife and ruler to cut down the pages to make it more exact and not chew up the paper in a rotary trimmer or guillotine. I didn't particularly like the last technique which is probably my most practised because of how messy it can get with glue but with more practice I think I can get a really nice hard back cover.

Self Branding - What should I do?

Think about where you would like to work/what you would like to do in the future.

Work freelance designing my own work and my comic.
Placements at Marvel/Graphic Novel companies.
Don't know?

Who are you as a person?

Graphic Designer
Graphic Novel lover
Comics lover
Superheroes lover
Professional Bastard
Classy Lumberjack

Evil Swan

Who are you as a designer?

I'm like designing and creating my comic but since I haven't actually published it yet so I'm still not too sure if that's who I am. I'm still discovering myself so I think my self branding should be based on me as a person not as a designer.

What are your interests/inspirations?

Evan Eckard
Marvel/Comics/Superheroes
Films
Music
Adventure/Traveling
Friends
Family
People in general

I would have quite liked to look into designing a comic based on my life that I could update yearly of how things are going this is more for me than to send off to industries. The idea would be so that I could reflect on what I have done and if people were interested then they could have a look too as it might help them in their own work. I think I may keep this idea as it would be too time consuming at this moment in my life but I would like to come back to this idea.

A creative CV would be a good idea to design and send off to clients so that they could get a feel for who I am as a creative without having to look too much into my portfolio.

The CV would link to my third idea which I'm sticking to a bit more than the others. I would like to create some sort of online presence for myself as at the moment all I have is personal social networking accounts and not much of my work. To create an online presence I think I will most likely need to look into something to link all the ideas together.
